Physician Collaboration Provides the Highest Quality Care

John Burfeind, M.D., Oncologist, Columbia St. Mary’s

Posted: Nov. 1, 2006

Any time a physician has the opportunity to consult with other medical specialists, the result is a more accurate patient diagnosis and pinpointed treatment plan. When the medical specialist in need is right down the hallway, sometimes available within minutes to review a case, that makes for the best type of medicine we can offer our patients.

That’s why the new Columbia St. Mary’s Prospect Medical Commons is such an outstanding clinic for health care delivery. By building this clinic, we have combined under one roof a wide variety of physicians who will work in concert with each other to provide leading edge treatments for our patients.

As a result, our care will be as precise and comprehensive as possible, often meaning quicker treatments and recovery for our patients.

Medical studies have shown time and again that the sooner a patient receives the necessary medical attention he or she needs, the better the chances for the best possible outcome. With many of our specialists just minutes away from each other, we now will be able to collaborate on patient cases more often and more efficiently, bringing a type of medical care to our patients that is not found everywhere.

In addition, with our new clinic’s proximity to St. Mary’s Hospital we’ve reduced the amount of time our doctors spend in the car, meaning each doctor at the Prospect Medical Commons should be able to spend more time with their patients in the office as well as those in the hospital, making multiple hospital site visits a day if necessary.

More time with your physician means more time to get all your questions answered, helping you and your loved ones feel as comfortable as possible with the care you are receiving.

Prospect Medical Commons will house the following medical specialties:

  • Family Practice
  • Internal Medicine
  • Obstetrics/Gynecology
  • Neurology
  • Pediatrics
  • General Surgery
  • Cardiology
  • Oncology and Hematology
  • Dermatology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Allergy/Immunology

As well as specialists working together, our new clinic also incorporates many of the latest architectural features for health care facilities, making the patient experience as convenient and comfortable as possible. For example, our parking garage allows patients to access the clinic from all levels. And the array of specialists in the building should allow patients to visit multiple physicians, if necessary, in the same location, possibly even in the same visit.

As doctors at Columbia St. Mary’s, we are excited about the opportunity to practice medicine in a way that is collaborative and comprehensive for our patients. Our hope is that each person will find the care within Prospect Medical Commons to be a level above what they have experienced in the past.
