Women’s Health ‘Toolkit’ Promotes Physical Activity and Healthy Eating

Posted: Nov. 1, 2005

A new “toolkit” to help women across the nation take action to build healthier communities has been published by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The publication, called “Healthy Women Build Healthy Communities Toolkit for Physical Activity and Healthy Eating,” is a workbook that offers building blocks to help women plan, organize, and evaluate community events focused on physical activity and healthy eating.

Suggested activities include organizing a community vegetable garden or planning walking groups in office settings.

The toolkit is part of the HRSA-supported Bright Futures for Women’s Health and Wellness Initiative. The initiative helps women of all ages increase their awareness and use of preventive health services, participate in health care decision-making, and take active steps toward a healthy lifestyle.

The toolkit is available online at http://www.hrsa.gov/womenshealth/toolkit/menu.html, and can also be obtained by calling the HRSA Information Center at 1-888-ASK-HRSA.
