Last Updated: July 1, 2003

Who are the volunteers?
Volunteers come in all ages with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Each volunteer brings new and unique levels of expertise to the Columbia St. Mary's family. By drawing on the organizations core values, we create the essentials for happiness: Something to do...Someone to love...Something to hope for.

Volunteer benefits
Columbia St. Mary's values the time volunteers spend at the hospital. To show our appreciation to you as a volunteer, we offer a number of benefits:

  • Meal vouchers
  • Free parking
  • Work/school reference
  • Participation in hospital activities:
  • picnic
  • holiday dinner
  • other special events
  • Influenza vaccine from our Occupational Health Services department.

What are the requirements of a volunteer?
Volunteers are assigned a regular schedule that meets the need of the hospital and volunteer. Short-term and special project placements also exist.

To become a volunteer at Columbia St. Mary’s, the program requires that you accomplish the following prior to placement:

  • Submit a volunteer application
  • Complete a successful volunteer interview
  • Complete the volunteer health assessment process (proof of immunity to rubella, rubeola and varicella)
  • TB skin test
  • Drug screening
  • Participate in a caregiver background check
  • Provide two references (work or personal)
